Shep Chesney



<sub>As a young boy born into the Deep South, South Carolina specifically, Shepherd was raised on proper southern etiquette. At the age of 12 his mother passed of cancer and left only him and his father in an austere dwelling that resembled a shack more than it could a house. Over time, through the manual labor of both Shep and his dad, it was fixed up into something more artful than the dilapidated building it was. His father had always upheld a special admiration for poetry and the same could be said for his young boy. Shep used to have a stutter and so he and his father would sit on the porch every evening to read poetry from poets like Walt Whitman. Thanks to his father Shep learned to grow up with not even two dimes to rub together but to live with it and embrace what Life would give on the rare occasion that it did. Shep never asked for much, he was always modest, and spent most of his childhood playing alongside the neighborhood gang of young boys. As he grew older he worked in the local lumber yard distributing the bark and pulp off the trees.

Shep isn’t normally timid around people he’s only just met, and has been known to do stupid, spontaneous things. Once he jumped onto the seat of a working Ferris wheel in order to get the agreement of a date from a young lady he took to liking that night at the fair. There are times when he’s too cocky and sure of himself for his own good, and also moments where he loses his temper like any other human being, but the latter is few and far between. Typically Shep is patient and a people person. He like to lend a helping hand be it with whatever, household chores or fieldwork. At the facility Shepherd works as a groom in order to make some extra cash when he isn’t working at this state’s lumberyard or wherever else he might find small, simple work. Shep can kid around if the situation will have it. There are exceptions when he’s too serious over something meant to be taken humorously, or too laughing in somber times. However he’s always had a special keenness for someone’s emotions and can read people better than a book.</sub>
