_{Ember's mouth fell open in surprise as power washed over her. She turned to stare at death itself and than she ran to him and hugged him."Thank you."she whispered. He was her savior, he had saved Jai's life. It was long though, before Ember returned to Jai's side. She wouldn't leave him for too long. Not till he was back on his feet.(eating)}

<sub>"Come, Ember," Unole said after the Witch-King had teleported them, "take Jai to his room. The bleeding's stopped, I think, but he'll still need rest. Do you want to stay with him?" With gentle movements, Unole took Jai's slack form from Ember and held his adopted son close to his chest, starting for Jai's room. He'd guessed that Ember would never let Jai out of her sight - not after she had seen how heartbroken Unole had been at the murder of his own lifemate. He half-smiled to himself, pleased that his daughter would know the unconditional love of the one being that completed her.

He shooed several of the staring guards away with a stern look. Two of his best guards had been attacked, and one had been murdered. The tension and adrenaline that was now coursing through the house was natural; the guards wanted revenge.</sub>

_{Unole was right about Ember never leaving Jai out of her sight again. She shuffled after her father, glancing at the guards. She cared for all of them and none of them deserved to die."Thank you for your service."she whispered to each of them before she followed her father into Jai's room. She gently shut the door and settled on the edge of the bed. "When do you think he will wake?"she asked, softly. A moment later, a white cat replaced Ember's place and she settled on the foot of the bed.}

<sub>"I'm not sure," Unole said as he went to leave the room, "but he will be fine. Trust to hope, Ember. He is strong yet, and the Witch-King has placed his faith in Jai. That means something." He gave the two a kind smile and shut the door behind him.

Jai's breathing was soft and calm, peaceful and without pain. He face was slack with peace and exhaustion; he had passed out long ago and now was trapped in the "Healing Sleep" as his body tried to rid itself of the Cibarium magic which was a toxin to the Schimba. His eyelids fluttered occasionally, almost as if he were to wake, though he would simply sink back into a deep, dreamless sleep. His mind was blank, and he sent no emotions over their bond; his body was focused on healing, and that was it.

_{Ember nodded her feline head and purred softly as her father left the room. She didn't last long though in her cat form and was soon back in her just regular Ember form. Once more the soft melody left her lips, they were the most random songs and most were different genres. A few of the songs she sang were I'm a girl by Hayden, Till my last Day, Love story by Taylor swift, Where I belong by building 429, etc. Slowly, though she began to grow tired. It wasn't long before she was curled up in a ball, asleep. Her eyes fluttered on occasion, she was dreaming and her dres were rather active.}

<sub>Quite some time later the mind of Jai stirred and his stark green eyes flicked open. At once, he knew what had happened and turned his head slightly to see the slumbering form of Ember. A half-smile touched him; his life-mate. Wow. A part of him had known; that is why he had protected her so fiercely. He reached out his right hand, twirling a strand of her soft hair around his index and middle finger. Ever so softly, he began to hum.

"Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread.
Through Shadow, to the edge of night,

He paused, smiling, before he began once more.

_{Ember awoke when he touched her hair, she was a light sleeper, but she didn't want to him to stop. Her head turned just the slightest as she heard him sing. A smile formed on her lips and she opened her eyes,"You're awake!"she whispered, as she scrambled to sit up. She wasn't a graceful as she wanted to be, but that didn't stop her from hugging Jai. She held him close, a tear slid down her cheek,"I thought I lost you."she whispered. Her touch was as gentle as a butterfly as she held him, she wasn't about to hurt him. She didn't want him in pain anymore than he had to be.}

<sub>Jai huffed. "It's harder to get rid of me than that," he murmured. He fell silent for a moment. "My dad was the one who did it," he finally said, his voice strained. "I'd recognize that bastard's voice anywhere." He shook his head, still playing a bit with Ember's hair. "It's over now. I'm back, and I'll be fine soon. Just need some sleep." He gave her a gentle smile. "You needn't worry about me anymore. You're gonna have to worry about running the Schimba some day, Spark." He let out a tired huff, leaning back into the pillows. He was exhausted, but Ember was excited that he was awake and he didn't want to disappoint her by passing out again. He'd fight through it.

The pain was annoying, too. It was a dull, incessant throb in the centre of his chest and it drove him mad.</sub>

_{Ember laughed softly and she shook her head,"I'll always worry about you, now and forever."she murmured, leaning her head on his shoulder before he fell back into the pillows. She glanced away, shame filling her,"I'm sorry. I'm sorry for treating you so bad. I knew, Jai. That's why I gave you such a hard time, I wasn't ready to lose my freedom."she admitted softly,"But I promise all of that is over.. I'm so sorry."her voice dropped to a whisper. "I really thought I lost you."she repeated,"And it was the scariest feeling in the world. Don't you dare do that to me again."she said as she got to her feet. She didn't look at him,"Got to sleep. We all had a long day."she phased into a dog and curled up on the floor. She didn't think Jai wanted her on the bed. Her eyes fluttered closed.}

"Hey," Jai rumbled. "Get back up here. I like playing with your hair." He smiled, patting the space next to him on the bed. He blinked tiredly, fading fast.
