Well, damn.
Everything hurt; his ribs ached and throbbed with each gurgling breath, his head was pounding so hard he didn’t think he’d be able to stay conscious for much longer; his back radiated an intense agony, spreading around to his stomach and chest. His gut was churning, rolling with agony, and he guessed there was internal bleeding. Everything burned with intense pain. His legs were bent at odd angles, as were his arms and wrists. That wasn’t good. Very slowly, methodically, he attempted to flex his fingers – and pain shot through his hazy brain. Broken. Okay. Toes were next – those were broken too, he soon found out. With a grunt, he turned his head, spat out a mouthful of blood, coughed violently, swallowed more blood. He closed his eyes, trying to block out the agonizing brightness of the moon. He couldn’t remember a damn thing, though he assumed he’d gotten in a bit of trouble in the nearby community. A burning, different from the rest of the pain in his body, began at the base of his spine and he breathed in relief. The healing process had begun.
It hurt like a son of a gun as his body healed. His legs snapped back into place, the bones fusing together. Torn ligaments in his knees and ankles withered away and regrow. His dislocated hip skittered across his pelvic bone before popping back into the socket, the broken bones and chipped joints reforming. Dammit. His lower half was fully healed, but he knew the worst of the damage was in his torso. As the healing magic spread towards his gut he ground his teeth together to keep from roaring in agony. The ruptured organs seemed to wither away, melting away to rejoin his blood before new, specialized cells were created to remold the necessary body parts. The blood that had pooled in his stomach and intestines dried up, absorbed by the healing process. His broken ribs snapped back into place, his heart once more beat on a regular pace, and he felt the burning heading towards his skull. A fracture in his skull melded together like it was liquid, whatever blood that had invaded his cranium being absorbed in the process. There was one thing left to heal, though: his spine, and it was going to hurt.
The instant the magic touched his spinal cord he knew he wasn’t going to be able to hold back the shift. He clenched his teeth, grinding them back and forth as he attempted to prolong the change. His incisors lengthened, poking into the soft flesh of his lip. The wound healed in seconds. His eyes morphed into a startling amber-gold, shining with a supernatural light. The instant that his vertebrae was straightened and reformed, he rolled onto his feet, crouching low, hands resting against the earth. He panted, instinctively fighting against the shift. It hurt to resist it, but he knew that he had to do all in his power to remain in his human form. If his wolf took control, he was screwed; it was that simple. His wolf would want vengeance, and judging by the state of his body before he healed, he wasn’t strong enough to fight back. He cried out as his ribs broke, shifting to accommodate the new form. His ears rose to the top of his head, growing points. His nose and mouth stretched forward, melding together to form a muzzle. His teeth grew deadly sharp, his fingernails sharpened into claws, and his fingers shrunk, curled into themselves, and formed into paws. A thin flap of skin connected his fingers together.
He released another cry of pain as the shift was completed and he slumped forward, jaws split to allow him to pant. He was now covered in a thick coat of jet black fur, the strands shifting slightly in the wind. The massive wolf, much larger than a standard Canis Lupis stood to his full height, golden eyes glowing with an ethereal light, burning with a primal fury. The fur along his spine rose, along with his hackles, and he curled his lips back over glittering fangs. The wolf threw his head back, releasing the song of his kind. He sang of vengeance, warning those who had dared attempt to harm him and his that he was coming, and he held no room for mercy in his heart.
