Long, slender fingers gripped onto the reddish-orange rubber curry comb and flicked it in quick downward motions across the coat of a dark bay. Sutton finished brushing down her horse and set the brush down next to her tack, running a hand absently through her dark brown ponytail.

Anne had ridden her prospects, brushed them all down, and put them all in their stalls for some leisure time to eat their feed. She fixed her dirty blonde messy bun as much as she could and headed for the horse barn, apple at hand. Lightning, a head-shy, skittish, submissive two year old gelding who had suffered abuse and neglect from previous owners as a foal and young yearling, greeted her warily. His ears perked forward at the sight of the apple, warming up already as he happily took it from her. He had been her project for a while, and after a bit of work with her, had begun to get comfortable with the female, and seemed to like other girls better now. Males, however, were obviously not a preference of his. Anne wondered if he would ever like men, after all his prior to owner was a guy.
She put a leather halter over his scarred, but otherwise unmarked, copper head. The quarter horse was solid sorrel; only a few random white hairs to be found on his body, and a light dorsal stripe that some sorrels were known to have even without the dun gene. The teenager led him out of his stall, giving him a quick rub down before they started their exercise ride. He was a bit of a handful, but she enjoyed working with him, so it was worth it in her eyes. His story only pushed her further to mend and heal him.[/sub]

Sutton glanced up at her younger sister, her hazel brown eyes bright and inquisitive. "Do you wanna go for a trail ride?" she called out, light and airy voice ringing throughout the stables. Her bay mare, Summertime Sadness, perked her ears in response to her rider's voice. After a year of working together the two had already formed a deep bond unlike any Sutton had had with a horse before. She supposed it was all because of the things her mother was teaching her, but they seemed to just have a natural fondness for each other.

Anne's sparkling green gaze reached the source of the voice. She ran her fingers through Lightning's mane, before draping her arm across his back. He turned his head ever so slightly to the side to watch her. "yeah! I was just about to take Lightning for a ride, I'd love some company. It's boring riding alone on the trails sometimes," she shoved stray pieces of her dark blonde hair out of her face, bringing Lightning to the cross ties so she could saddle him.

Jordan led Clyde through the stables, the mustang's ears everywhere as the duo made their way over to Sutton and Anne. "Hey ladies," the twenty year old stable hand grinned, rubbing the dark bay's snipped nose with one of his large hands. The dappled gelding made a throaty noise as Jordan came to a halt. "Mind if I join you guys for a ride? I've got all my work done for the day," he offered, glancing behind him at his already saddled steed.

Sutton smiled slightly in response, nodding to her sister and buckling the chin strap of her helmet. She ran a hand down Soda's neck as she bent down slightly to tighten the girth, wrinkling her nose when the mare's nostrils flared and she sidestepped slightly. "Easy there," Sutton murmured, eyebrows creased. She lifted her head at the sound of another voice, her eyebrows in turn raising as she caught sight of its owner. "I don't see why not," she answered, hazel eyes slightly curious as she glanced at him briefly. "But you'll have to hurry. Sun's already getting lower in the sky."

Anne slipped a rubber bit between Lightning's teeth, which he seemed thankful for. It helped take the edge off, as he sat there mindlessly chewing on it, eyes abnormally wide as the nervous quarter horse awaited what was to come. Anne was quick to throw her patterned saddle pad and dark leathered barrel saddle onto his back, tightening the girth and back strap. "Crap. I don't have my helmet... Lets just go. I'll be fine. I got a hard head anyways," She smirked as she hefted herself onto the nearly sixteen hands high horse. He was a big boy, and it was even scarier that he was very shy and skittish, but she didn't show any signs of anything but calmness. He was a big difference from her 14.3 hh, sound, tamed mare, Crissy. But she liked change and variety, so she bared with.
--
Jordan laughed. "Well I'm all set, so. Ready when you are," He raised a brow, before pulling Clyde's reins over his head and easily climbing into his old, worn pleasure saddle. The mustang sighed through his nostrils, barely shifting. He was 15.2 hh, a little tall for a mustang, and very stout, an excellent fit for the 6'3" lean hand. The two got along well, the gelding seemed to take a liking to the male.

"Mom will kill you if she sees you," Sutton reminded Anne, shaking her head as she hoisted herself into the saddle as well, her tall english boots rubbing against the newly cleaned leather of her saddle. "I'm good to go," she said as she played with the reins, grinning slightly in anticipation. It had been a while since she'd ridden with anyone, and she'd been riding a new project horse more recently than Soda, so she was glad to be riding her little mare again. Soda'a ears twitched and she scraped a hoof against the cement, almost impatient. The bay mare was your typical bay, an almost reddish color that deepened down her legs and muzzle, with no white markings anywhere except for the little coronet above her back left hoof. She was about 15.2 hands, a bit tall compared to Sutton's 5'3" but not bad.
